Portrait Session Tips: How to Feel Confident + Look Your Best for your Portrait Session
Portrait sessions should be relaxed + fun! If you’re having fun it will show in your portraits. It’s easy to get stressed + caught up in the details, but I’m sharing my best five tips to help you feel confident for your portrait session! Whether you’re preparing for your engagement session or a family session, these tips will help you feel your best!
1. Pick out your outfits a few weeks before your session.
Start with an outfit that you love for your inspiration and coordinate the rest of the family using that outfit.
2. Try it on and make sure you love the way it fits!
If it’s snug, too loose, or fits weird, you won’t be comfortable and won’t like the way it looks in photographs. Try and stay away from material that wrinkles easily.
3. Pamper yourself! Use this as an opportunity for self-care.
Schedule a hair appointment, get your nails done, and even have your makeup professionally done! A little refresh can make you feel more confident and trained makeup artists know how to apply makeup to photograph really beautifully.
4. Leave a few minutes earlier than you need to in order to arrive early.
There’s nothing worse than being stressed and bickering in the car on the way to your session because you’re running late. If you and your family are stressed, it’s going to be hard to enjoy the session and let’s face it, it’s hard to fake a smile and pretend like you’re happy 😊
5. Let go of high expectations + striving for perfection.
Don’t worry about posing, I’ll show you exactly what to do in a natural way! I will give you all the direction you need, so just enjoy it! I promise we will laugh, have a good time, and chat like old friends. If you’re having fun, it will show in the portraits. Let the kids be kids. That giggle when you say a silly joke will give us the most beautiful, genuine smile. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Enjoy the moment, have fun, and truly create fun memories.
